Canada’s Breadbasket and the Food Casino
There’s been no shortage of new content on our blog this week. But I write to highlight a couple of interesting reads from other blogs.
On the CCPA’s Behind the Numbers blog, Simon Enoch lays out how Saskatchewan’s electoral boundaries translate Conservative dominance among rural voters into winning 13 of the province’s 14 federal ridings.
The Canadian Wheat Board has a stabilizing effect on prices for the producers and consumers of western Canada’s grain. The great majority of Saskatchewan farmers support this single-desk marketing system, which the Conservatives are dismantling. Rural voters should remember this anti-democratic decision in the next election.
