I have no informed view on the merits or downsides of this proposed takeover of the Toronto exchange, but find it interesting the degree to which the Canadian corporate and political elites have again fractured on the issue of foreign ownership of “strategic” assets. This is an interesting piece from the Financial Times of London. Most of the banks led by TD see the deal as a threat to their goal of turning Toronto into a global financial centre.
So, there seems to be broad agreement that we should turn down deals which undermine sectoral industrial development strategies as long called for by the left, right?
